Okay, I finished this track last night.
This song is simple to. A man is observing a family gathered together for a holiday from his window. although they are enjoying time spent together to the fullest, there is always an awareness of how fleeting time is, even alluding to the fact that they have to keep track of how many more days they have left till they all must return home. This has more of a classic Frank Sinatra/crooner feel and is in the key of G major, although still utilizing a minor chords in the prechorus. time sig. is 8/8. (I think)
Something to break the clock February 15, 2009
"they all feel it on the inside
but they don’t say it
Cause it’s just too obvious
In their laughter
From the window
Even I see
That they all know
They can’t slow it down, or beat it
Bury time and wait for it to come back around
When it’s good, or when it’s needed.
There eyes sparkle with sighs from deep down
Oh give me something to break the clock
Give me something to break the clock
Something just to make everything stop
Nothing's happening
but right here
they’re wearing down
the carpet dancing altogether
they love their family
but they waste
their vacations
keeping track of days
They can’t slow it down, or beat it
Bury time and wait for it to come back around
When it’s good, or when it’s needed
There eyes sparkle with sighs from deep down
Oh give me something to break the clock
Give me something to break the clock
Something just to make everything stop"
